Dr Stuart Hendry, CEO, Director
Dr Hendry has 20 years' experience in the medical device industry having been CEO of Sphere since its founding in 2002. Prior to Sphere he held positions at the Generics Group plc, PowderJect plc, Diametrics Inc and Pfizer Hospital Products. He has been instrumental in the commercialisation of numerous medical devices mainly in the area of clinical monitoring and diagnostics. He is on the board of ERBI Ltd, is chairman of the Medilink Steering Group, a member of the CBI SME Council, a member of the Healthcare KTN Steering Group and is on the Industry Advisory Board of BNC Ltd. He holds a doctorate in biosensor technology and is author on numerous patents, scientific and medical publications in the area of clinical diagnostics and monitoring.
Mr Mark Bampton, Quality Manager
Mr Bampton has a long history in product development, working in all areas from concept generation right through to transfer into manufacturing. This most recently included 14 years experience in the healthcare industry, holding positions at Bespak.
Dr Barry Brewster, Product Development Manager
Dr. Brewster is responsible for managing Sphere's product development activities. Prior to joining Sphere he worked at Unipath Ltd where he gained 10 year's experience of the in-vitro diagnostics industry both as a project leader and as a product development manager
Mr Chris Charalambous, Programme Manager
Mr Charalambous has 18 years experience in the medical device industry working for MediSense Inc and Abbott Laboratories. He has worked in R&D, Quality Control, Manufacturing and Regulatory Affairs, predominantly as a Project or Programme Manager.
Dr. Shaw Fox, VP Product Development
Dr. Fox has a background in Medical Diagnostic R & D and manufacturing. Since 1993 he has worked in senior management roles within product development and manufacturing at Ciba-Corning Diagnostics, Chiron Diagnostics, Bayer Diagnostics and Siemens Medical Solutions. A majority of that time has been devoted to the development of blood gas analysis instruments, sensors and reagent systems.
Ms Mary Hutchens, Regulatory Affairs Manager
Ms Hutchens has been in regulatory affairs for over 15 years and has worked for BP, Aventis, and Unipath. She has extensive experience in a range of international regulatory regimes and interaction with competent authorities.
Mrs JJ Ketchen, Office Manager
Mrs Ketchen is responsible for Sphere's Administration, Human Resources, Facilities, IT and Health and Safety. She joined Sphere following an assignment with the Generics Group (now Sagentia). Prior to this she worked at Reuters, principally as a Software Development Project Manager, for 23 years.
Dr Peter Laitenberger, VP Research and Technology Development
Dr Laitenberger is responsible for Sphere's research activities. He has extensive experience in micro- and nanotechnology. Prior to joining Sphere, he held positions at the University of Birmingham, Scientific Generics and Oxford Instruments.
Dr Ann Simon, Chief Financial Officer
Dr Simon has worked in finance, particularly in the healthcare and technology sectors, since 1985. Over the last decade she has been CFO of Genosis PLC, Mirada Solutions, NextGen Sciences, e-San and Bioglan Pharma. She has managed IPOs (London full list and AIM), corporate acquisitions and trade sales and fund raisings in the public and private markets. Prior to that she did corporate finance advisory work at Cazenove & Co. for clients ranging from start-ups to FTSE100 companies. She was on the FSA’s Financial Information Theme Team from 2002 to 2003.
Mr Chris Townsend, VP Operations
Mr Townsend has 18 years experience in the medical device industry working for Allergan Hydron, Pfizer Hospital Products, Ocular Sciences and Innovata. He has worked extensively in the transfer of products from R&D into manufacture and subsequent automation.
Dr Gavin Troughton, VP Business Development
Dr Troughton has a background in medical diagnostic has over 15 years experience in the development and commercial exploitation of chemical sensors and related technologies. He worked for a number of years at Zellweger Analytics and at Scientific Generics, where he worked in their Business Innovation practice.
