Dr Stuart Hendry, CEO, Director

Dr Hendry has 20 years' experience in the medical device industry and has been CEO of Sphere since it was founded in 2002. Prior to Sphere he held positions at the Generics Group plc, PowderJect plc, Diametrics Inc and Pfizer Hospital Products. He has been instrumental in the commercialisation of numerous medical devices mainly in the area of clinical monitoring and diagnostics.  He is on the board of One Nucleus Ltd (a not for profit science and healthcare network), a member of the CBI SME Council, a member of the Healthtech and Medicines KTN Steering Board and is on the Industry Advisory Board of BNC Ltd.  He holds a doctorate in biosensor technology and is author of numerous patents, scientific and medical publications in the area of clinical diagnostics and monitoring.

 

Mr Mark Bampton, Quality Manager

Mr Bampton, who joined Sphere in 2005, has a long history in product development, working in all areas from concept generation right through to transfer into manufacturing. Prior to joining Sphere, this included 14 years experience in the healthcare industry, holding positions at Bespak (a Consort Medical company).

Dr Barry Brewster, VP Production

Dr. Brewster is responsible for managing Sphere's manufacturing activities. Prior to joining Sphere in 2006 he worked at Unipath Ltd where he gained 10 years' experience of the in-vitro diagnostics industry both as a project leader and as a product development manager.

Dr. Shaw Fox, VP Product Development

Dr. Fox, who joined Sphere in 2009, has a background in Medical Diagnostic R & D and manufacturing.  Since 1993 he has worked in senior management roles within product development and manufacturing at Ciba-Corning Diagnostics, Chiron Diagnostics, Bayer Diagnostics and most recently at Siemens Medical Solutions.  A majority of that time has been devoted to the development of blood gas analysis instruments, sensors and reagent systems.

Ms Mary Hutchens, Regulatory Affairs Manager

Ms Hutchens, who joined Sphere in 2006, has been in regulatory affairs for over 15 years and has worked for BP, Aventis, and Unipath. She has extensive experience in a range of international regulatory regimes and interaction with competent authorities.

Mrs JJ Ketchen, Office Manager

Mrs Ketchen is responsible for Sphere's Administration, Human Resources, Facilities, IT and Health and Safety. She joined Sphere in 2005 following an assignment with the Generics Group (now Sagentia). Prior to this she worked at Reuters for 23 years, principally in the Newsroom and Transaction Systems Development.  

Mr Matthew Hall, CFO, Director

Mr Hall, who joined the Board in November 2011, is a chartered accountant with a degree in economics and has a broad expertise in all aspects of financial and corporate management.  He was most recently the CFO of IS Pharma plc, a specialist pharmaceutical group quoted on AIM; he was initially appointed its financial advisor and became CFO from January 2009.  In May 2011, IS Pharma plc merged with Sinclair Pharma plc to form Sinclair IS Pharma plc.  Prior to that he has gained over 20 years of corporate finance experience and has held positions at Noble Group, Close Brothers Group plc, Hill Samuel Group PLC, Merrill Lynch Co, Inc. Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu Limited and was seconded to the Executive of the Panel on Takeovers and Mergers.

Dr Gavin Troughton, VP Business Development

Dr Troughton has over 20 years experience in the development and commercial exploitation of chemical sensors and related technologies with a particular emphasis in the medical industry. Before co-founding Sphere, he worked for a number of years at Zellweger Analytics and at Scientific Generics, where he worked in their Business Innovation practice.
