Sphere’s products are based on the Proxima System, which is a microanalyser for real-time analysis of therapeutic drugs, disease markers and blood chemistry in critically ill patients.

The Proxima microanalyser, is sited on the patient's arm and measures a wide range of essential clinical parameters on a single silicon chip. The Proxima System will significantly increase the available data from which doctors prescribe life saving therapy, and will do so in near real time, giving clinicians the ability to respond rapidly to changing conditions in their critically ill patients.

In Development

Products in development include devices to monitor blood gases, electrolytes, metabolites, drugs and disease markers.

Drug monitoring will allow doctors to maintain the plasma concentration of therapeutic agents within the required range, avoiding toxicity associated with high concentrations and ineffectiveness from too low a dose.

Blood gas, electrolyte and metabolite measurement is essential for respiratory and metabolic management of patients, and is a standard of care in intensive care medicine worldwide. The ability to monitor critical disease markers in real time will help clinicians to keep abreast of disease progression in patients who, for instance, have had a heart attack or a stroke.
