The second chip in Sphere’s microanalyser is an ASIC (application specific integrated circuit) containing all of the control electronics required to drive the sensor array. The chip is only 4mm square yet it's functionality includes temperature control circuits, self checking and the ability to configure and store individual sensor control settings. In addition, the electronics chip converts the signals from the sensors into a multiplexed digital signal for transmission to a monitor or other interface device.
