Proxima

Blood gas analysis is the most important diagnostic test in critical care medicine. ICU and patients undergoing surgery have multiple tests to track their changing condition during their time in critical care. Proxima is set to change the paradigm in blood gas testing making it more efficient and more efficacious with no downside for the patient or clinician.

Time is of the essence in critical care medicine and Proxima gives results at the bedside in less than 4 minutes with the nurse never having to leave the bedside. Anaemia is common among ICU patients, current testing protocols mean that blood is lost every time a test is run. With Proxima all the blood is returned to the patient potentially avoiding risky transfusions and allowing clinicians to run more tests with no downside.

Proxima displays all the results at the bedside in a conventional list form and as graphical trends allowing clinicians to identify potentially risky changes earlier and begin treatment to avoid deterioration quicker. No other blood gas analyser offers these capabilities until now.

Proxima is a bedside, patient-connected blood gas analyser offering critical results quicker, more often and with no downside to the patient or clinician. Getting patients into normal ranges quickly and keeping them there for longer is one of the goals of critical care medicine that Proxima will help achieve.

Conventional blood gas analysis results in patient blood loss which they cannot afford – Proxima returns all the blood which allows more frequent testing. Proxima is a closed system meaning that the additional testing possible with Proxima comes at no increased infection risk as the line stays closed.

All these benefits come at a cost that is comparable with conventional blood gas analysis with the future prospect of Proxima contributing to overall ICU performance improvement in length of stay, readmission rates, morbidity and mortality rates, transfusion reduction, infection costs reduction and overall consumable costs reduction.
