We are seeking a diligent, enthusiastic & intelligent research scientist or engineer to join our R&D team in the development of biomedical devices. Working as part of the Sensors & Algorithms Development team, you would be helping ensure high quality data gathering, data processing, analysis & interpretation and be involved in a variety of support activities essential for the transition of technology from the lab to the market. Research is built-on and influential-to Sphere Medical’s proprietary lab-on-a-chip (LOC) blood analysis platform, Proxima.
Sphere Medical (Cambridge, UK) specialises in the development of innovative & disruptive medical monitoring and diagnostic equipment. The Company’s flagship analysis platform, Proxima, enables repeated, on-patient, automated measurement of key blood analytes (gases, electrolytes, metabolites…) and is designed to benefit a broad spectrum of patients, enabling faster critical decision making and improved clinical outcomes.
We develop all Proxima’s electrochemical, biological & physical sensors in-house, the work being highly multidisciplinary and rewarding. Joining Sphere Medical represents an opportunity to be exposed to the full cycle of medical device development, from initial concept generation through to regulatory approval and commercialisation. The successful applicant shall join the Sensors and Algorithms Development team within R&D, supporting aspects of sensor development, operation and data handling, and working in close collaboration with Test & Software Teams. This role requires the application of a base scientific knowledge to understand & improve raw sensor behaviour and to translate data into a meaningful, reliable and accurate displayed result.
Contribute to Sphere Medical’s research and development activities as part of a multidisciplinary team, focused towards the development of novel and innovative medical devices
Design and run experimental work, generally aimed at optimising electrochemical sensor operation
Maintain & develop analytics projects within R&D; data processing, analysis & interpretation
Input into company-wide risk-management and problem-solving activities
Identify and culture ideas for future sensing applications, including expansion of Intellectual Property (IP)
Diligent, self-motivated & goal-orientated, with the ability to work independently and deliver to a deadline
Strong interpersonal skills with a desire to work within a multi-disciplinary team
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
An ideal applicant would have an effective & logical mindset, some experience of product / device development and a desire for project completion
Graduate (or equivalent experience) in the applied physical sciences or engineering.
