Senior Mechanical Engineer

Salary
£40–60,000 DOE

Primary Role:

To contribute to Sphere’s research and development activities;

To contribute to Sphere’s process development activities

To create mechanical designs for Sphere’s products and production equipment;

To generate CAD drawings and mathematical simulation of the designs;

To construct prototypes of the parts and components;

To plan, organise and carry out test programmes to evaluate the designs;

To identify and interface with suppliers;

To manage product development activities;

To collaborate with other team members on internal and external development projects.

Other Roles:

To contribute to other aspects of the research and development activities;

To contribute to product specifications;

Participate in design and risk reviews;

Co-ordinate and support of the Company’s product development, operations and marketing activities and facilities as requested from time to time;

Project related (or departmental budget) financial management as requested from time to time.

Skills:

A significant track record in the design and development of electro-mechanical medical devices;

Significant experience in the design, evaluation and development of plastic components;

Experience in plastic-moulding design;

Extensive CAD skills (SolidWorks);

Experience in design for high volume manufacture;

Experience in carrying out mechanical simulations to evaluate mechanical designs;

Ability to create, evaluate and develop their own designs through prototyping and experimentation to meet challenging specifications;

Ability to work hands-on” in a workshop and laboratory environment;

Experience in identifying and working with suppliers;

Familiarity with medical device development;

Familiarity with relevant medical standards and quality systems would be highly desirable;

Experience in material selection for use in blood contact applications would be highly desirable.

Education & Experience::

A degree qualified mechanical engineer (or equivalent).

At least three years’ experience of working in an industrial environment, ideally in the medical device or related industry.

Experience of working with quality systems e.g. ISO:13485, ISO:9001
